Writing Central’s Online Writing Lab | Open Weeks 3-10

Personalized writing coaching offered in person and virtually.

Hi there.

Looking for help with your writing? You’ve come to the right place. Writing Central offers coaching for all students taking a class through the SOJC.

We offer three ways to get writing feedback:

  • In person pop-in coaching: Visit Allen 106 from 3-5 p.m. Monday through Thursday to talk face-to-face with a coach. No appointment necessary. Masks recommended.
  • Appointments face-to-face or over Zoom: Help with your writing in real time. How to schedule an appointment with Writing Central
  • Drop-n-Go coaching: Fast, easy and convenient. Click here to complete our Drop-n-Go form and submit your piece of work. Our goal is to get you feedback within 48 hours.

Live Zoom or phone appointments work best when you are in the beginning or draft stages of your writing process, or when you want to get more comprehensive feedback.

Consider making an appointment when you:

  • Are in the brainstorming stage and want to bounce ideas off someone
  • Have a draft going but want help organizing or talking through your ideas
  • Want to explain your project so the coach can tailor their feedback
  • Would like one-on-one help with grammar or AP style
  • Want to ask clarifying questions
  • Need feedback faster*

*Appointments are available almost every day, but we have a 48-hour turnaround period for Drop-n-Go

Drop-n-Go is a quick and easy way to get feedback on a piece of writing you have already created.

Consider using Drop-n-Go when you:

  • Have a specific question or issue you would like help with
  • Have a working draft or completed piece and want a second set of eyes (please note: we do not proofread or edit, but we can help you identify patterns in your writing or your grammar and style usage)
  • Are working on a short piece of writing (e.g., resume, email, news brief)
  • Have a flexible deadline*

*If you need feedback quickly, try making an appointment
